What is the DermaMedics’ Facial Moisturizing Treatment?

The Facial Moisturizing Treatment is formulated with a high level of skin-friendly oils and lipids that help to restore the balance of oils necessary to maintain the integrity of the skin. As one ages, the ability of the skin to produce the oils and fatty acids necessary for skin softness and moisture retention often decreases. This can result in dry, cracked skin, which is more susceptible to water loss. Facial Moisturizing Treatment is specifically designed to re-establish these oils and fatty acids. In addition to the unique blend of natural oils, the formulation contains vitamin B3 and the proprietary phytochemical Therosol®. This phytochemical has been shown in laboratory studies with human skin cells to have potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. The ingredients in Facial Moisturizing Treatment are formulated specifically to work together to help calm damaged skin and improve skin texture and appearances.

 

How do I use Facial Moisturizing Treatment?

After cleansing skin with the Foaming Facial Cleanser, apply evenly to face and to any other areas of the skin that feel particularly dry. The product may be used as often as desired. If skin is extremely dry, use Facial Moisturizing Treatment twice daily. If using in combination with any other topical product, allow one product to fully absorb before applying the second. If irritation develops, discontinue use.

 

Are there any concerns I should know about regarding the use of Facial Moisturizing Treatment?

Initial Stinging Sensation

Facial Moisturizing Treatment is a richly moisturizing and gentle lotion that can be used daily. However, when first applied it may cause some tingling or mild stinging as the Therosol® in the product penetrates into the skin. This sensation will subside in one to two minutes. With continued and frequent use, this tingling/stinging sensation may disappear altogether.

Use with oil-prone skin

Facial Moisturizing Treatment is intensely moisturizing and specifically designed for skin that does not produce enough natural oils to maintain skin softness and moisture. If you have combination skin or oil-prone skin, you will probably find that this product is too moisturizing for you.

No Sunscreen

Facial Moisturizing Treatment does not contain any sunscreen. Therefore, if the product is going to be applied in the morning before going outside, we recommend that either a lightly moisturizing lotion with an SPF of 15 or makeup that contains a sunscreen be applied to any areas of skin that will be exposed to the sun. Allow the Facial Moisturizing Treatment to completely absorb before applying the sunscreen.

Glycerin

This excellent humectant absorbs and retains moisture in the skin. It is extremely mild when applied topically, and can be used at high concentrations.

Jojoba Oil

This oil is prepared from the seed of the jojoba plant and, unlike many natural oils, is chemically similar to the oil produced by sebaceous glands of the skin. It is a superior moisturizing emollient, which helps soften and smooth skin. Jojoba oil is so gentle and pure that it can be applied to cracked and damaged skin to help moisturize and restore the skin’s barrier.

Isocetyl Stearate, Isostearyl Palmitate

These are fatty acid esters that have excellent emollient properties. They are non-irritating and can be used at high concentrations on the skin. In addition to their emollient properties, these esters act to reduce the friction and dryness of cosmetic formulations, thus improving the spreadability and feel of the product. 

Niacinamide

Also known as Vitamin B3, niacinamide helps to promote exfoliation. It also helps strengthen the skin’s barrier to prevent water loss.

Therosol®

Therosol® is a proprietary and patent-pending ingredient discovered by Therametics’ scientists. Research studies have shown that Therosol® can increase collagen and elastin production in human skin cells. It has also been found to have potent anti-inflammatory effects on skin cells, blocking the production of a variety of inflammatory hormones that can inflame skin and erode the skin’s structural matrix.

Stearic Acid

This naturally occurring 18 carbon fatty acid is found in vegetable oils. It is widely used in many cosmetic products as an emollient, emulsifier and lubricant. Because of its gentleness to the skin, it is used at concentrations up to 25%.

Cetyl Palmitate

This emollient also acts as a skin conditioner, helping to restore weathered and damaged skin to its natural state.

PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, and Cetearyl Alcohol

These non-irritating emulsifiers allow the oil and water phases of the lotion to mix evenly and form a stable emulsion. They are also emollients and moisturizers.

Dimethyl Isosorbide

Dimethyl Isosorbide is a safe, non-irritating cosmetic ingredient that serves as both a skin emollient and a skin penetration enhancer. It helps to facilitate the movement of “actives” into the skin.
