DermaMedics skin tone brightener cream
What is DermaMedics’ Skin Tone Brightener Cream?
This moisturizing cream is an advanced skin brightening formula designed to minimize the appearance of “age spots” and to visibly restore a balanced complexion to the skin. Our Skin Tone Brightener Cream contains Therosol®-E, which has been shown in scientific research studies to block melanin production at two steps along the melanin synthesis pathway. In addition to Therosol®-E, DermaMedics’ Skin Tone Brightener Cream contains salicylic acid to help exfoliate the skin and accelerate the skin turnover process. This hydrating lotion helps maintain skin softness, in addition to minimizing the appearance of hyperpigmentation and restoring a balanced, youthful complexion.
How do I use Skin Tone Brightener Cream?
After cleansing with DermaMedics’ Foaming Facial Cleanser, apply Skin Tone Brightener Cream to discolored areas. For best results, use twice daily. Because age spots consist of melanin that forms a layer from the base of the epidermis, it will take about 4 weeks for all the existing melanin to be pushed to the skin’s surface and removed. If using Skin Tone Brightener Cream in combination with any other product, allow the first product to fully absorb into the skin before applying the second product. As with any skin care product, discontinue use if irritation develops.
Are there any concerns I should know about the use of Skin Tone Brightener Cream?
No Sunscreen
Skin Tone Brightener Lotion does not contain any sunscreen. Because of this, if the product is going to be applied in the morning to sun-exposed areas, it is recommended that a lightly moisturizing lotion with an SPF of 15 or more be applied to these areas after Skin Tone Brightener Lotion has completely absorbed into the skin.
Salicylic Acid
Skin Tone Brightener Cream contains 2% salicylic acid to help exfoliate the skin and accelerate the skin’s turnover process. The product is pH balanced and should be well tolerated by the skin. Salicylic acid is used in numerous skin care products and is an FDA approved OTC drug for acne and psoriasis. It is not a skin sensitizer. Allergies to salicylic acid are very rare. However, if Skin Tone Brightener Cream causes long-term redness, please discontinue use as this could indicate an allergy to the ingredient.
Note:
Hyperpigmentation can be the result of too much melanin accumulating in EITHER the epidermis or dermis. Most hyperpigmentation problems are due to too much melanin in the epidermis and this can be effectively minimized by the use of Skin Tone Brightener Cream and accelerated skin exfoliation. Hyperpigmentation that is due to melanin that has become “trapped” in the dermis is not easily removable. This pigment is similar to a tattoo and will be more resistant to treatment by any product, including Skin Tone Brightener Cream. Bleaching of these areas by laser treatments or more invasive procedures may be required to achieve the desired effects.
Therosol®-E
A member of the Therosol® “family” of plant-derived compounds, Therosol®-E has been shown to have potent melanin inhibiting properties. It is the only “bioactive” compound that can both reduce the production of melanin in human melanocytes as well as block the melanin synthesis pathway.
Tocopheryl Acetate
Also known as Vitamin E acetate, tocopheryl acetate is an excellent antioxidant and helps protect the skin by neutralizing free radicals.
Sunflower Oil
This light oil supplies more Vitamin E than any other vegetable oil. Sunflower oil, like other oils, helps to retain moisture in the skin. However, it may also provide a protective barrier that resists infection.
Niacinamide
Also known as Vitamin B3, niacinamide helps to promote exfoliation. It also helps strengthen the skin’s barrier to prevent water loss.
Salicylic Acid
Salicylic acid is a gentle “beta-hydroxyl” acid that helps exfoliate the skin. It boosts cell turnover which brings the existing melanin to the skin’s surface where it can be discarded.
Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-100 Stearate, and Cetearyl Alcohol
These non-irritating emulsifiers allow the oil and water phases of the lotion to mix evenly and form a stable emulsion. They are also emollients and moisturizers.
Ascorbyl Palmitate
An ester of ascorbic acid, ascorbyl palmitate is commonly called Vitamin C and palmitic acid. By complexing vitamin C to this fatty acid, Vitamin C is converted into a form that is both stable and can penetrate into the skin. Vitamin C that is not complexed is very unstable and degrades within minutes of being exposed to the water in a lotion or on your skin.
Ascorbyl palmitate inhibits tyrosinase, the enzyme that produces melanin. Vitamin C has also been shown to stimulate collagen, reduce inflammatory hormone production and act as an antioxidant.
